An Egyptian doctor obtained a master’s degree with distinction in the effect of cupping therapy with blood (cupping) in the treatment of rheumatoid disease, in the first university thesis of its kind in the Arab and Islamic worlds.
During the discussion of the master’s thesis at the Faculty of Medicine, Girls’ Branch, Al-Azhar University, researcher Sahba Muhammad said: Cupping is an effective, economical and simple method that helps control rheumatoid articular activity.
At the same time, the researcher emphasized that it is not a substitute for drug treatment for rheumatoid patients, and it can only be used as a supportive or complementary treatment for drug therapy for rheumatoid arthritis.
The researcher explained that she conducted the cupping sessions in a medically correct manner, while sterilizing the tools used on 50 rheumatoid patients, included in the research sample, at a rate of 3 sessions per month for a period of 3 months.
She added that there was an 80% improvement in pain relief, and patients were able to live with the disease and lead a normal life, and as a result, the percentage of medications that patients were taking decreased.
The master’s thesis entitled “Effect of treatment with air cups with blood (cupping) on each of the interleukin-2 receptors and normal cells in rheumatoid disease”, called on the researcher to conduct more scientific research on cupping and its effect on contributing to the treatment of diseases.
The discussion committee recommended opening the door for more research related to cupping, and studying the idea of introducing complementary medicine courses that were approved by many Western medical colleges, approved by the World Health Organization; In order to introduce medical students to new methods that complement and support their previous medical knowledge; With the aim of achieving comprehensive medical knowledge, developing medical education, and providing greater opportunities for recovery and dealing with diseases.
After discussing the master’s thesis, Dr. Abdel-Gawad Al-Sawy, the scientific advisor to the Scientific Miracles Authority in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, said: “This thesis is the first of its kind in the Islamic and Arab world, and its importance comes from the problems that are raised about cupping between physicians practicing it and the Egyptian Ministry of Health in particular, and the Doctors Syndicate that Cupping is criminalized, while the common people perform it in homes and mosques.
Dr. Al-Sawy considered that “the master’s thesis is an invitation to the attackers – without logic – to be rational, and to study cupping according to a correct scientific method. It is also an invitation to the lovers of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, to study this year to apply it correctly,” indicating that the Prophet was cupping.
He continued, “The master’s thesis calls for the addition of cupping to complementary medicine that is taught in many European universities.” conducted, and confined it to the doctors.
